Fare will be $2 for 5-month trial period News release from Town of Collingwood July 24 2011 Council and staff from the Town of Collingwood and the Town of Wasaga Beach are very pleased to announce a transit link between the neighbouring communities on a five month trial basis effective August 2, 2011.
Taking into consideration peak ridership hours and to facilitate commuting between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach, the transit link will operate as a continuous loop Monday to Saturday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The additional service will operate on a half hour schedule starting from the Collingwood Bus Terminal at 100 Pine Street and linking to Wasaga Beach at 45th Street at the Superstore. To ensure rider flexibility, there will be designated bus stops along Hwy # 26 between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. The bus for the Collingwood-Wasaga Beach link is fully accessible and fare will be $2.00 during the trial period. Mayor Cal Patterson commented “Wasaga Beach Council is excited to offer this new service to residents and visitors of Wasaga Beach and Collingwood. I am personally pleased to be working with Mayor Sandra Cooper and members of the Town of Collingwood Council on this pilot project. It is my hope that the additional service provides a much needed cost effective mode of transportation linking the communities together. The transit link exemplifies the positive working relationship between The Town of Wasaga Beach and the Town of Collingwood. I anticipate the service will be well received and heavily utilized.” Mayor Sandra Cooper commented “Members of Collingwood Council are ecstatic to expand the transit service beyond our boundaries. The Town of Collingwood has provided municipal transit service since 1987 and now, on a trial basis, it is expanding outside our boundaries. The transit link between the Town of Collingwood and the Town of Wasaga Beach only strengthens the relationship with our neighbours while the County of Simcoe provides support to make the new service more cost effective. Through the five months of trial period, my hope is for a heavy demand enabling consideration beyond 2011.” Town of Wasaga Beach and Town of Collingwood staff will undertake a thorough evaluation of the transit link in early December 2011 to determine if the link should continue into the future.
