| Don't re-appoint those responsible for costly mistake |

Oro-Medonte now has to appeal its own adjustment committee decision to OMB This committee, alone among committees appointed by Council, is arm’s length from Council’s oversight and can act independent of the wishes of Council. This was driven home recently when the Committee of Adjustment, at its October 21, 2010 meeting, voted to grant a severance in direct and knowing contravention of both the township and county Official Plans, as well as the requirements of the Conservation Authority. Motion No. CA101021-6, moved by Potter and seconded by Hastings and passed by the committee, has required Council to appeal the C of A decision to the Ontario Municipal Board to undo their error. This is a costly and time consuming process, entirely unnecessary if the Committee of Adjustment had followed the well-understood rules relating to severances. We trust that Council will not reward Messrs. Potter and Hastings by re-appointing them to the Committee of Adjustment for the next term. We cannot afford their poor judgment.
