Warnock: Against move that closes door on Shotyk's water research project By DOUGLAS GLYNN Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin June 14 2011 Simcoe County council appears set to declare "surplus" a portion of the former Site 41 property so it can be sold. The county clerk has issued a notice indicating the county's intention and identifying three parcels of land that would be sold and one parcel – described as 'disturbed' – that would be retained. Site 41 sale brings back memories Letter to the Barrie Examiner June 22 2011 (Re: 'Section of Site 41 ready to be sold' in the June 15 edition of the Examiner) It is with utter shock and disbelief that over the weekend I learned that Simcoe County staff has suddenly decided to put Site 41 land up for sale immediately -- but not including the disturbed area that contains the dump infrastructure since it's been rendered unusable for agriculture. |





Just barely 2 weeks ago Dr. Shotyk made his presentation to County Council with an incredible proposal to develop the site as a world-class water innovation research centre.
The proposal was well received by Council, but they took no position on it and voted in favour of having staff work with Dr. Shotyk to come up with a more detailed plan and then report back to council with it. There was no time frame mentioned for this report.
Sofar, no staff report has been made public, and yet now sudddenly, county staff have decided that most of the Site 41 property is to be put up for sale immediately. However, no one told Dr. Shotyk, who is still busy putting in a lot of time and effort getting more support for this project. I think it shows appalling disrespect for all the hard work he has put into this. They're just pulling the rug out from under him now!
