AWARE Simcoe November 28 2011 When we can see a solution, it's easier to admit that there is a problem.
The perpetual economic growth model is running into trouble. As our times ripen, we can break through the barriers of denial and despair and stimulate a self-fulfilling sense of hope and action. This will be the topic in Penetanguishene Thursday, December 1st at the Karma Marketplace 76 Main St. 7:00 pm The talk and discussion aim to clarify the direction in which solutions to economic and environmental problems lie, and to show that there are great opportunities awaiting, once we choose to go in that direction. Change is possible and you can be part of it. The issues of chronic unemployment, fuel prices and pollution all herald our maturation as a species. Collectively the human family is now grown up. We need to acknowledge that our planet is not growing and accept adult responsibility toward each other and the Earth. The challenge is similar, proportionally, to our maturation as individuals. As formidable as becoming an adult may seem to some teenagers, in the end, it comes down to accepting responsibility for mature size and ability. The 7th Generation Initiative aims to help clarify the responsibilities of a mature society, and some cultural mechanisms that can enable our transition to a responsible civilization. More can be found at: http://www.SustainWellBeing.net/challenge_and_goal.html Presenter / story-teller Mike Nickerson will introduce the topic and facilitate a discussion to clarify the challenge and opportunities and to look at how they can be applied in your community. For nearly forty years Mike Nickerson has studied Cultural Evolution, and in particular how humanity might adapt when we have "filled" the Earth. His writings include three books: "Change the World I Want to Stay On," "Planning for Seven Generations" and "Life, Money and Illusion; Living on Earth as if we want to stay." |
